Job Opportunity:
Diverse City are recruiting a part-time Personal Assistant (PA) for Eilís Davis,

Artistic Director of Extraordinary Bodies Young Artists.

We are looking for a confident and organised person. The role will include administrative tasks (email, diary management, scheduling, note taking) as well as some support facilitating events and workshops. You will set up effective working practice strategies for Eilís to make best use of her energy and strengths. 

Fee 

£25 per hour, 5 hours per week.
This is a part -time freelance role. 

About Eilís 

Based in Bristol, with regular work in Dorset, Eilís is a neurodivergent creative and optimistic activist working toward a better, more equitable future.

As Artistic Director of Extraordinary Bodies Young Artists Eilís supports D/deaf, Disabled and non-disabled emerging talent to train in the performing arts. Working with large integrated participatory groups, Eilís creates contemporary theatre that includes circus, live music, and anarchic stories. The shows tour at major venues nationally and sometimes internationally. Her current show is a piece of gig -theatre that speaks to queer and disabled audiences.

Eilís has worked for Diverse City for 11 years and is embedded in the organisation. She contributes to the charity’s strategy, fundraising, planning, consultancy, report writing and artist development work. From January 2024 Eilís is undertaking an MBA in Senior Arts Leadership through the University of Wolverhampton. She is an ambitious cultural leader.   

Duties  

As Personal Assistant to Eilís you will be responsible for working with her on her Access to Work documentation and invoicing processes. This is a new role so, in the first instance, you will listen to understand needs and challenges and together come up with strategies that will support and enhance her working practice on a day-to-day basis. You will require excellent communication skills and be a calm, organised presence who likes a good belly laugh.  

The role is largely remote working and occasional periods of travel to rehearsals, workshops and touring shows. 

The remote work will range from monitoring emails to managing her diary and planning, note taking, digesting large reports/budgets/pieces of information, and translating them into succinct and clear summaries.   

The in-person work will include supporting Eilís in the rehearsal room, touring shows and workshops through scheduling, note taking, and ensuring she has everything she needs to work at her creative best. Occasionally you may be asked to step into a facilitation role so that Eilís can take time out.  

Personal Specification

(Essential) We would love to meet people who… 

  • Are great written and verbal communicators with good attention to detail.  
  • Are good at working methodically to organise effective systems and problem solve. 
  • Are interested in arts and culture and have some experience of facilitating workshops or events.  
  • Have confidence and experience in using software including Dropbox, Slack, Zoom, Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook. 
  • Have a positive, proactive, and flexible working approach with the ability to schedule in dialing up or down hours depending on workflow. 
  • Can bring calm and pause to high pressure situations.  
  • Commit to the Social Model of Disability

(Desirable) and it would be great if you also had:  

  • Previous experience of supporting and working with disabled people. 
  • Previous experience of working in theatre or cultural setting. 
  • An interest in health and wellbeing tools and practices. 
  • Confidence and experience in using additional software including Hubspot, Canva, Grammarly, Global Tasks, and QLab.
