Mid Life: The Skin We’re In

Productions

Following the enormous success of Mid Life as Diverse City entered 2020, we were already thinking of ways that we could continue exploring that world. When 2020 turned everything upside down, it presented us with the opportunity to explore digital work. We got the whole team back together again, and created a short film, Mid Life: The Skin We’re In.

“This skin is my surface – my rind – and I am the fruit, still juicy inside.”

A poetic look at mid life, and how to celebrate, survive and thrive in your own skin.

This vital, uplifting film explores the expectations we place on women’s bodies, especially those in mid life, and how we can rise to a deeper appreciation of ourselves.

Collectively created by and based on the lives of Jacqui Beckford, Claire Hodgson and Karen Spicer, this film, like all work produced by Diverse City and Extraordinary Bodies, is audio described and captioned.

“Brutally honest…endearingly human”

Like all Diverse City made films, this is available both captioned and audio described. If you’d like to watch the audio described version, you can do so here.

Mid Life: The Skin We’re In premiered at Bristol Old Vic on International Women’s Day, 2021.
