Diverse City are hiring a Creative Support Worker to help facilitate our Extraordinary Bodies Young Artists (EBYA) programme.

Creative Support Worker (Maternity Cover): The Basics

Reports to: Diverse City’s Children’s & Young People’s Team.
Location: The Lighthouse in Poole.
Fee: £11.20 per hour. We will pay residentials and overnight stays at a rate of £150 per day. 
Pension: After successful 3-month probationary period.
Contract Term: Starts in 19th March 2020 and ends in late December 2020.

Interviews: Monday 9th March 2020, in Poole.

About You

  • You have minimum 2 years experience of working in a care environment with children and/or young adults. Alternatively, you have NVQ in Health and Social Care Level 3.
  • You are interested in the performing arts and want to get involved in creative activity.
  • You have experience in supporting people with personal care needs .
  • Your attitude is friendly and positive. Hence, you are quick to support tasks and you inspire enthusiasm and inclusion in others.
  • You have up-to-date training and are open to update or further it. For instance, learning more about safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, first aid, moving and handling and mental health first aid.
  • Your understanding of the social model of disability is strong.
  • You have basic IT and basic Microsoft Office skills.
  • Above all, you can adapt and communicate well with diverse people.
  • Confidentiality, discretion and tact matter to you.
  • You can stay calm in a crisis.

Your Duties As Creative Support Worker

Practical Support
  • Support EBYA members to fully participate at regular rehearsals, performances, residencies and other events.
  • Actively support creative activity.
  • Take on support with physical needs (including medication) and personal care as agreed with the person and the wider care team. 
  • Be aware of the social and emotional needs of participants and offer relevant graded support.
  • Recognise different communication methods and adapt your approach.
Best and Safe Practise Related to Accessibility
  • Collect, maintain and update sensitive information about participants to enable safe working. 
  • Act on behalf of Diverse City as a key link between EBYA members as well as their parents, carers and other support agencies. This is about applying a ‘multi-agency’ approach to individual growth and development.
  • Be aware of any relevant existing care plans, or develop a care plan as appropriate based on any individual needs.
  • Inform the Artistic Director, Producer and any visiting artists of access as well as support needs. 
  • Stay up to date with policy, legislation and training requirements about the role, and advise Diverse City to support safe and best practice. 
  • Identify any training needs and update practice to meet new demands of the job (First Aid, care and handling, feeding, etc). 
  • Provide your most recent DBS check.
Children and Young People’s Targets
  • Work on risk assessments.
  • Understand the importance of sensitive data and GDPR rules.
  • Contribute to regular CYP team meetings, evaluation as well as documentation.
  • Fill in monthly time sheets and submit them to the CYP Producer.
  • Contribute to the wider Diverse City team at meetings.
