Ramps on the Moon – Youth Theatre Training

Spotlight

Diverse City is excited to be working alongside Ramps on the Moon in a new partnership, bringing inclusive Youth Theatre Training to venues across the UK.

Ramps on the Moon is a consortium of six mainstream regional theatres and Graeae Theatre. The theatres that make up the Ramps on the Moon consortium are: Birmingham Repertory Theatre, New Wolsey Ipswich, Nottingham Playhouse, Sheffield Theatres, Stratford East London and Leeds Playhouse. Ramps on the Moon produces inclusive theatre productions transforming mainstream organisations. All shows feature D/deaf and disabled performers and creative access as standard.

Ramps on the Moon believes that all Youth Theatre should offer young D/deaf and disabled people the chance to explore their creativity. Together with Diverse City, the consortium is transforming all their Youth Theatres to be more inclusive and representative.

Throughout July, Diverse City will lead day-long workshops with creative practitioners from all Ramps on the Moon venues. We will be in Birmingham, Leeds and Ipswich to share new approaches, build confidence and develop thinking in how to make Youth Theatre practice and performance inclusive.

In the practical sessions we will explore the creative challenges and opportunities around working with difference. We will play with ways to integrate creative access so that everyone is included. We will also explore how the work in the rehearsal room is enriched when inclusion moves from the margins to the mainstream.

As part of our shared work to increase equality in the arts, Ramps on the Moon and Diverse City will share this case study with the wider sector. We want to increase the opportunities for the early development of D/deaf and disabled people in the performing arts through Youth Theatre.

If you are a venue, artist or practitioner interested in our Inclusive Rehearsal Room training, find out more on our website, or contact Louise our Training Producer for more details: [email protected].
