The Basics
The Role: Children & Young People Producer (part time, maternity cover)
Reports to: Executive Director, Becky Chapman
Location: Flexible, though some key delivery will be in Poole, Dorset.
Key Dates: 20 June 2018 – end of June 2019
Salary: This job is task-based, not hour-based. The job is valued at £11,200 per year, and roughly works out to 14 hours per week for 52 weeks of the year (£28,000 annual salary pro-rata. Pension scheme enrolment after 3 months continuous employment). You’ll work flexibly and remotely. So long as you complete your tasks, it’s up to you to define & agree when and how they get done.
Timeline

About Us
Diverse City is a new National Portfolio organisation led by a team of passionate optimists who believe that everyone should have a home in the performing arts. All that we do aims to increase diversity and equality of opportunity in the arts and all the work we make includes D/deaf, disabled and non-disabled people.
In partnership with Cirque Bijou we run Extraordinary Bodies, the UK’s leading integrated professional circus company. Extraordinary Bodies Young Artists (EBYA) is a performance training company for 16-30 year olds, based at Lighthouse Poole.
The team works remotely across the south of the UK, including Bristol, Gloucestershire, Dorset and London. One of our co Artistic Directors, her PA and our Finance Manager are based in Swanage, Dorset; the Artistic Director of EBYA is based in Poole; three of our team are in Bristol and our other Artistic Director is in London. We are committed to flexible and inclusive working practices.
About You
You are an experienced Producer in the arts sector (minimum of 2 years) who believes that the Performing Arts unlocks social change. You’re a happy communicator and can talk to anyone. You’ve a beady eye for detail, budgets, reports and love all the (hidden) hard graft that makes fantastic training, events and shows happen. You have a good home working environment, your own computer, whizzy wifi connection and a printer.
Your Responsibilities
The Children and Young People (CYP) Producer is responsible for delivering targets in Diverse City’s Business Plan for work with children and young people, emerging artists & audiences. The role oversees exciting inclusive activity that spearheads the development of the next generation of diverse artists across the southwest and nationally in partnership with major organisations. The role plays a critical part in progress towards our vision of full integration across all performing arts.
Your To Do List
Finance
- Manage the CYP annual budget and delivery including forecasting, accounting, payment processing etc.
Producing
- Produce our regular programme of EBYA weekly sessions, aerial circus training, performances, digital output and residentials in partnership with the Artistic Director, partners and lead artists, including professional company Extraordinary Bodies.
- Produce our annual coaching and mentoring programme for emerging artists in liaison with EBYA Artistic Director.
- Support the delivery of our annual Arts Award programme in liaison with EBYA Artistic Director.
- Management of CYP specific marketing, in liaison with Diverse City Communications Manager and external partners.
Fundraising
- Lead and deliver EBYA’s October 2018 Crowdfunding campaign.
- Research new funding streams, lead on and contribute to funding applications.
Evaluation and Reporting
- Collect of data and evaluation materials.
- Contribute to regular reporting process to funders and complete major project report for one of our Foundation partners.
Partnerships
- Pursue opportunities with existing and new collaborators in the HE & FE sector, major arts partners, key funders, and professional and emerging artists.
- Manage relationship with CYP partner Lighthouse Poole and relevant CYP hubs and networks in the southwest.
We’d love to meet people who have…
- Really fabulous organisational, financial, administrative, IT and project management skills – you love getting things in order and can make things happen smoothly without a drama.
- Up to date knowledge and understanding of integrated arts and HE & FE – you know the needs of both and want to build a relationship between the two.
- Experience of working in Dorset and the southwest – and you are happy to travel to the south coast regularly.
- Strong working knowledge of IT software, cloud computing and CMS (Word, Excel, Mail, Dropbox, Trello, Google Drive) – you can juggle 5 modes of communication and love your computer and software.
- Totally sound understanding of Diversity & Equality and Safeguarding of Children & Vulnerable Adults policies and practice – you are vigilant and experienced.
- Experience of getting on with the job independently (from home office or similar) but also love working as part of a team – you love a challenging deadline and aren’t phased by multi tasking.
- A solid track record of building fruitful relationships in creative partnerships across cultural, educational and local authority sectors.
